This pontoon would enable sustainable fry production. After harvesting the fry from the wild, the fry would be kept in tanks on a pontoon, with a constant flow of seawater (with variable depth targeting optimal conditions) with ensured controlled conditions for growth / pre-growth until reaching the necessary size for transplanting to cultivation fields. In addition to the established species (oysters and mussels), FLUPSY di could also be used for the growth of commercially very interesting species (scallops, small scallops, vongole and bream), whose younger ones can still be collected from nature in certain localities and there is an urgent need for protection and recovery of this population, which can be achieved with an innovative pontoon specially designed for Croatian conditions.
This system will significantly increase the rate of exploitation of fry from the wild, significantly increase the use of natural resources, and in addition, it will ensure the sustainable protection of fry and new species besides mussels and oysters: scallops, small scallops, clams, whose natural stock is rapidly decreasing and needs protect her. Additionally, the pontoon will be solar powered, and will be completely energy self-sufficient from renewable energy sources. The innovative pontoon will have solar power so that the use of energy from non-renewable sources that are normally used for transplanting fry (fuel for vessels and hydraulic systems) will be eliminated. The pontoon will be completely energy independent.
This innovative solution is easily integrated into the existing business of aquaculture growers. It is a stand-alone facility that needs to be hauled to the farm. It is easily adapted to the specific requirements of each manufacturer. The solution is compatible with common production technologies and equipment.
The solution was constructed according to the design of the project team members of the faculty. In addition, all the equipment that is installed on the floating solution is adapted to the specific requirements of the shellfish farm. In the very process of testing FLUPSY at the shellfish farm, members of the project team educated the users (breeders) on how to make the best use of FLUPSY itself as well as the installed high-tech equipment.
The solution is in accordance with relevant environmental regulations and industry standards in the EU. According to the positive laws of the Republic of Croatia, the vessel obtained all necessary permits from the accreditation institution (Croatian Register of Ships). In addition, an opinion was obtained on the negative impact of the intervention on the environment, which established that the project has no harmful consequences.
The project was created by noticing a problem, i.e. the lack of a hatchery for shellfish in the territory of the Republic of Croatia. Namely, the collection of fry and their maintenance requires an extremely high amount of human labor, and the utilization rate of natural fry is very low. The project solution is currently in the phase of advanced testing at the shellfish farm in Šibenik. FLUPSY is currently of great use to shellfish farmers: they use built-in pumps to get the optimal (plankton-richest) amount of water into the shellfish boxes with the greatest possible safety from predators (sea bream).
Not applicable at the moment since the project ended in January, 2024. Publication is planned until the end of this year.

Manufacturing + project documentation + solar panels: 35.000,00 EUR Equipment: pyranometer, temperature sensors (3 pcs), Data Logger, ultrasonic anemometer, albedometer, water pump, 8 boxes: 15.000 EUR Maintanence: ? EUR (for now we do not have enough information to present the exact amount) - FLUPSY has solar panels at its disposal, which lead to significant savings in its maintenance. Here the cost would refer to the regular maintenance of the batteries.
