The development of concrete mixes of different categories depending on the classes of exposure or aggressiveness of the marine environment (recipes of concrete) represents a new step forward in the field of research and development, and therefore requires the systematic implementation of clearly planned research and development activities (own research and development activities, contractual research and collaborative research ). The multi-sector contribution of the project to the rest of the national economy of the Republic of Croatia is primarily reflected in the spillover of positive effects on the protection of the environment at sea and the preservation of natural resources: • Development of special materials and concrete with appropriate construction technologies • Reducing the amount of waste due to the use of industrial mineral additives • Preservation of natural resources due to the replacement of part of the cement with industrial waste mineral additives • Reduction of CO2 emissions due to reduced production of cement
The performances that distinguish the planned concrete mix from competitive products on the market are: • Increase in compressive and tensile strength while reducing the proportion of cement • Reduction of chloride ion migration coefficient • Increasing waterproofness • Reduction of capillary absorption • Achieving the consistency of self-compacting concrete • Significantly accelerated installation of concrete • Reduction of the need for manpower during installation • Drive acceleration • A significant increase in ecological acceptability, and therefore sustainable development, and a reduction in the anthropological impact on climate change • Ability to model concrete properties and optimize concrete mixtures using a sophisticated computer program.
The solution uses industrial by-products to replace part of the cement, which can be compatible with the existing concrete production processes of many companies. The usual components of concrete production (aggregates, water, cement) remain similar, with the addition of recycled materials, meaning that adaptations could be minimal. Since the mixtures are adapted to specific classes of exposure to the aggressiveness of the marine environment, the recipes are designed to be flexible, which allows adaptation to different construction conditions and specific requirements of individual projects. The planned solution, which includes an increase in compressive and tensile strength, waterproofing and a reduction in cement content, is designed to be compatible with existing concrete production technologies. The use of self-compacting concrete, accelerated installation and reduction of the need for labor are advantages that further facilitate integration with existing systems.

Ecodesign Directive (EU): This directive mandates that products must be designed in such a way as to reduce their impact on the environment throughout their entire life cycle. The use of recycled materials and the reduction of cement in concrete directly contributes to the reduction of CO2 emissions and reduces the use of natural resources, which is in line with the EUs green transition goals. EU Regulation 305/2011 (CPR – Construction Products Regulation): This regulation ensures that construction products, including concrete, meet basic requirements for safety, durability and environmental protection. The developed concrete mixes should be tested in accordance with this regulation and the norms related to concrete.
