Fibereuse Tech helps companies implement circular economy solutions in composite sector by transforming waste into new high-added value products. Starting from the support in designing and redesigning processes and products to include recycled composites, Fibereuse Tech also offers tests across the entire process chain from recycling or reprocessing to prototype development. Finally, it helps companies to rethink their business model as well as designing and developing a recycling facility. In particular, Fibereuse Tech patented a Cyber-Physical System to control and optimize size reduction processes based on a demand-driven cross-sectoral approach, predicting the size distribution of the output material of a grinding process, enabling recycling.
Up to 20% of the material used in composite production become scrap and is discarde, often in landfills or incinerated. Not only resulting in an extra cost, but also compromising sustainability. Recycling the scraps allows to save money twice, by eliminating disposal costs and substituting a part of raw materials. Furthermore, introducing recycled materials into products will ensure to achieve higher sustainability scores. Fibereuse Tech implements Circular Economy Solutions in composite sector, integrating the entire value chain in a demand-driven cross-sectorial way.
Depending on the manufacturing processes and the specific products, the solution will be customized. The cyber-physical model could be easily adapted to any mechanical pre-treatment, while the design and implementation of a specific circular economy strategy needs to focus on company`s needs and challenges. In general, recycling processes should be flexible to different input products conditions and quality, therefore the developed solutions will be compatible with common manufacturing technologies and equipment.
Fibereuse Tech has expertise in demanufacturing (disasembly, cutting, shredding and sieving)and reprocessing material with several technologies: open and closed mold casting, pultrusion, lamination, BMC and SMC, RTM, non-woven mat and many more. The support services offered to the customers includes design and re-design of processes and products, testing activities, prototype development, business model analysis and design and development of recycling facilities.
The solution will help the company to be compliant with more and more strict regulations and normatives on sustainability.
Fibereuse Tech born from the big EU project FiberEUse for the large scale demonstration of new circular economy value-chains based on the reuse of end-of-life fiber reinforced composites. In this project, more than15 demonstrators have been developed in several sectors (sports equipment, sanitary furniture, design ) integrating material obtained through the solution that is behind Fibereuse Tech. These products have presented in a big exhibition of the Milan Design Week 2021 and reproted in the open access book "Systemic Circular Economy Solutions for Fiber Reinforced Composites". Currently, discussions with two important companies are on track to implement the solution at their facilities.
