All Mixcycling products are biocomposites. This means that they contain a percentage (from 10% to 70%) of organic fiber mixed with a polymer base that can be virgin, recycled or bio-based. Based on users needs Mixcyling develops different ranges of biocomposites through the following process: 1) FIBER RECOVERY AND SELECTION We select byproducts from the agro-industrial supply chain according to sustainability criteria as well as technical and processing features. 2) FIBER TREATMENT Within 24 hours from arrival to our facilities, we enter the fibers in our process. We grind them, then sieve them and separate dusts and granules by their different granulometries. 3) FIBER ACTIVATION AND NTP TECHNOLOGY Thanks to a patented process including NTP (Non-Thermal Plasma) technology, we can reactivate the fibers thus readying them for an even closer bond to the polymer base. 4) SPECIAL MIXING Our patented process allows us to join cohesively the polymer base with the fiber. A unique technology resulting in blends with high technical and aesthetic performances. 5) MIXCYCLING BLEND The result is a pellet, which is sanitized once again through NTP technology and purified from odours and volatile compounds (V.O.C.).
Mixcycling aims to be not a mere producer of materials, but rather a sustainability project partner. The creation of an ecosystem based on partnerships and open innovation is a fundamental aspect of Mixcycling`s business proposition. The startup accompanies its partner through every step of the project`s realisation: not only does it produce and design “tailor-made” blends, customised for the partner`s desired application, but it also offers support in identifying sustainable solutions.
The solution can easily be integrated into existing manufacturing processes and customized to specific manufacturing requirements.
Tailored training programmes are provided to organisations to maximise the benefits of the solution when required.
The solution is in compliance with the relevant environmental regulations and the industry standard at the EU level.
The production process of Mixcycling® blends provides successful solutions for a large variety of industries and manufacturing companies (from packaging, furniture, to housewares). Follow along with each step of the production process of Mixcycling® sustainable biocomposites, from extrusion to the rigorous characterisation tests taking place in the lab.
Case studies include: a) Alpiplast and Mixcycling have collaborated on a range of biodegradable straws based on silver skin. b) Mixcycling and Perpetua, an Alisea brand and leader in the circular economy space, have created a partnership to develop g_cork: an innovative, design stopper that doubles as a pencil. c) A design leader in the beverage world, Brevetti WAF chose Mixcycling to create a sustainable line of ice buckets. d) Tera®, an innovative and circular brand in the world of vases, has chosen Mixcycling for a sustainable line of cork-based gardening accessories.
