Solution overview

DieEnergiekoppler GmbH, based in Dresden, connects renewable energy plants with the new-generation virtual power plant developed in-house, the flexibility plant, and enables renewable energy plants and battery storage systems to be marketed innovatively and efficiently on the energy exchange. The flexibility plant is the fundamental building block between the energy plant and the marketer. It takes on fully automated tasks that are necessary for marketing: Forecast provision, operational monitoring, flexibility management, monitoring and active control of the plants. Direct and flexibility marketers, battery storage manufacturers, energy suppliers, plant operators of renewable energy plants and battery storage systems are among the customers of Energiekoppler. Energiekoppler currently markets more than 1 GW of output from renewable energy plants and 140 MW of battery storage via the flexibility plant.

Key features

High degree of standardisation - thanks to the modular software structure, the central control station of the flexibility plant, the swarmHUB, can be set up in one day and the connections of assets can then begin. High degree of automation - up to 70% of the integration effort and costs are reduced when integrating the assets. Configuration work (recording individual parameters of the energy plants in the central control centre) is avoided thanks to self-learning algorithms. Only one system model have to be chosen. Physical swarmBOXes are installed in only 10% of cases (installation effort). Connections are made remotely in 90% of cases. Multi-use marketing enabled - Not only direct marketing of renewable energy is enabled, as with conventional virtual power plants, but also combined marketing. This combines the direct marketing of renewable energy, the flexibility marketing of battery storage systems and the optimisation of own consumption in the building.

Integration and adaptability in manufacturing environments

The flexibility plant is open to all technologies and allows different energy systems to be connected via a wide range of existing interfaces.

Implementation support and training for manufacturers

Energiekoppler ensures that the flexibility plant is set up and that all assets are accessible for trading and are optimally controlled in accordance with the specified restrictions. If required, a workshop or project planning can take place in advance in order to assess the development of the business area.

Sustainability, compliance and certifications in the EU

Use cases

Example of successful implementation of solution in manufacturing company.

"The integration of the battery of our first joint customer in 2023 remains unforgettable, a special technical case that Energiekoppler was able to master successfully. Since then, as a digital storage marketer, we have been using Energiekoppler's flexibility plant not only for the connection and control of cross-market-optimized standalone batteries, but also for behind-the-meter systems in the small-scale commercial and industrial sector. Our transparent collaboration in this innovative field enables us to market flexibility reliably and profitably.” - testimonial from Enspired GmbH
